About MSF NAMS Implementation Grant Program

This Blog is maintained by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation to provide information about the Grant Program itself as well award recipients and their funded projects.

The goal of the MSF NAMS Implementation Grant Program is not only to encourage new partners to support NAMS, but also to invest in addressing the 82 NAMS recommendations. In this way, MSF grants can be used to establish ongoing support of motorcycle safety efforts beyond that which its funding helps initiate. MSF expects a wide variety of the grant awards to go to projects other than those involving MSF Rider Education and Training System

(RETS) activities.

MSF does not expect awards to focus on MSF activities unless the project has implications beyond the routine work of a training site or state program.

Any person, organization or business may submit an application at any point during the year for an award from that year’s funds.
Generally, award amounts will range from $1,000 to $10,000.

Applications must:

(1) show evidence of having carefully examined NAMS and its recommendations,

(2) specify which recommendation is being addressed and why,

(3) identify other partners/funding sources for proposed action plan,

(4) provide a timetable for action plan,

(5) specify funding amount requested,

(6) identify expected/desired outcome,

(7) specify measurement/evaluation plans for outcome,

(8) agree to report to MSF on results achieved and an accounting of expenditures related

to the project, and

(9) grant MSF permission to publish results in either its Safe Cycling magazine or other

MSF/NAMS reports or presentations

Ideal projects may be grassroots in nature, acquire funding from a variety of sources, be from nontraditional (e.g., non-motorcycle industry) groups, and be evergreen – creating value in years to come.

Those interested in applying for a 2006 grant can download application forms as well as copies of the NAMS from the MSF website
